Volvo has invented a spray that illuminates things and people when they are lit by a car’s headlights. It’s a life-saving solution to road accidents.
Often you happen to make accidents or avoid them for a while because in the street, at night, there are cyclists; people walking or racing that are not very visible. There are many people use reflective vests and spotlights, but not everyone follow these basic rules.
Volvo Life Paint
Life Paint comes to the rescue of road users, a “magic” spray developed by Volvo engineers who, when sprayed on clothes or other items (boot, bike, etc.), makes them immediately visible as soon as the light of the A car’s headlights hit them.
The spray is contained in a small aluminum can and does not require special instructions or special application methods; just pin it and sprinkle it. Everything that strikes becomes instantly a reflective surface. The spray is clear and invisible in daylight, but at night it lights up when hit by a light beam.
As written, it could be of great help to those who move on the streets in the evenings or at night with means that are not a car. The paint works best on fabrics, and it is likely that it lasts longer if applied to a backpack rather than on the bicycle frame.
Volvo says the spray is special because reflective particles are bonded together with a glue to create gloss. The spray, however, is not permanent. It is based on water and after a week of “normal use” degrades – without counting the action of any rain or snow. At the moment, Life Paint is only sold in the United Kingdom at 13 pounds, or about 15 Euros.
