Find an overview of the personal protective equipment available to us:
Workwear
To facilitate firefighters work at tasks that do not require the wearing of flame retardant clothing, there is also light protective clothing. This is supported in operations, which are located in the area of technical assistance. Specifically, these are a jacket and a trouser that were sewn respectively for better visibility with reflective material in yellow / silver / yellow. Protective clothing protects primarily against mechanical hazards, pollution and serves the improved perception of the carrier on traffic areas or at points of application. The design of the clothing is based on the flame retardant clothing, but has a much smaller range.
Heat Resistant Clothing
For particularly large heat radiation firefighters are to protect forces deployed heat protective clothing. This heat-protective clothing is available in three different power levels, only Option 2 (medium heat protection) and 3 (severe heat protection) play a role in practice. Classic for heat protective clothing is the silver appearance of the clothing. Before applying the heat-protective clothing, the carrier must invest its full flame retardant reflective clothing (including respiratory protection). Furthermore then a silver coat (Form 2, medium heat protection) or a silver overalls and jacket (Form 3, severe heat protection) is pulled. For both versions, there are also special gloves and a helmet (or a hood) with darkened visor.
The clothing itself consists of an agamid fabric was deposited on the aluminum and to enable firefighters to approach fire locations with very high thermal radiation. Due to the disadvantage of this type of protective clothing allows very little freedom of movement and only a very limited field of view, it is only suitable for use on special fire places.
Chemical-protection suit
A particular danger lays in the fire service of dangerous substances, etc. in the form of dusts, gases, liquids may occur. To protect you from these biological and chemical hazards, are the fires “chemical protective suits” available. These suits are made of special plastics, which have a very high numerous chemicals. However, a chemical protective suit is not attractable “indestructible fortress”, which is why the contact with the hazardous substance avoided or should always be as short as possible.
Since the chemical protective suit is gas-tight, the support must always wear a respirator in order not to choke. Boots and gloves are firmly attached to the suit and cannot be removed. With a special gas-tight zipper the suit is closed. The on and off of this suit requires the help of other firefighters and beyond requires many additional organizational measures, which are very labor and material intensive.
Dress uniform
The official Service clothing the fire brigade consists of a dark blue jacket and pants, a light blue shirt and a dark blue tie. It is worn on special occasions, to fire safety services or proof of their meetings. The main task of this clothing is visible to act as a fireman or firewoman.
Youth fire brigade
The young firefighter dresses Germany uniformly. Blue dungarees or trousers and a blue reflective jacket with an orange shoulder area are just for every member of the youth fire brigade. The suit is made of cotton and is not water-resistant. An orange helmet, leather gloves and safety shoes complete the protective equipment in the field of youth fire brigade. Grey and sweaters with a private logo on the back are also part of the appearance.
The children’s group our firefighters wearing simple pants and jackets. Leather gloves child sized and the helmet of the young firefighters are the only parts of this equipment in the interests of personal protection. Safety shoes in these small children’s sizes do not exist.
