Action light, see and be seen

The “Action Light, see and be seen”, on the initiative of the city of Meerkat, the “General German Bicycle Club es” (ADFC) and the “Association of pedestrian and bicycle friendly cities, communities and districts in North Rhine-Westphalia” (AGFS) goes back, is supported by the police in the Rhine district of Seuss.

The aim is to make the students aware of road hazards. Already in the middle of January, the police accompanied an action at the comprehensive school, Battenberg Leg, for the fifth, sixth and seventh classes. About 175 students were informed about the lighting, condition, and safety of the bike and reflective clothing.

The police also announced to the interested children checks of mediated knowledge and let their words follow on Friday (01.02.). In the early morning hours, on the way to the Maria Montessori Comprehensive School, officials checked the proper bicycle lighting and general visibility of the students, for example by wearing reflective vests or clothing with reflective tapes.

Of about 80 cycling students, nearly 20 had no lights on the bike. The victims were once again reminded of the “action light” and made aware of the dangers of insufficient lighting. The vast majority of children had the prescribed lighting on the bike and had this switched on.

The majority of the “Light-less” students already attended higher grades. From the target group of the fifth, sixth and seventh classes were only two cyclists without the light on the way. Therefore, the action can be considered successful.

He moved without glare

The Łuków policemen determine the circumstances of the accident that occurred last night in Mizary. The 60-year-old has hit the Audi car. The man died as a result of injuries at the scene of the incident. The policemen determined that the walking path did not have any reflective materials.

Yesterday before 7:00 PM the officer of the Łuków command received a notification about a road incident that occurred in Mizary. The application showed that he was hit by an Audi car on the road. The policemen who arrived at the scene of the accident learned that he had suffered extensive bodily injury and died at the scene of the incident.

He moved without reflective clothing

The uniformed workers working on the accident site stated that the incident occurred on a stretch of road outside the built-up area, in a place where there was no street lighting anymore. Preliminary findings indicate that the aggrieved pedestrian, a 60-year-old from the commune of Stockist Malinowski, was on the road and had no reflective elements.

The officers determined that the 61-year-old resident of the Daywear municipality was driving sober. Now, policemen under the supervision of the Prosecutor will conduct an investigation to determine the exact course and circumstances of the tragic event.

Police officers are appealing for wearing reflectors

Many people still do not realize that the lack of reflective elements threatens their safety on the road. Cyclist or pedestrian moving around after dark, on an unlit road, causes a big threat.

He is dressed in dark clothing, without glare, and is seen by the driver of the vehicle from a distance of about 40 meters. However, a walking person wearing reflective tapes becomes visible even from a distance of 150 meters. These extra meters allow the driver to slow down and safely bypass the pedestrian. So let’s follow the rules, let’s protect our lives and health, just wear reflections!

The scouts from Hydrolyze care about the safety of the pedestrian

Some behaviors of road users, both drivers, and pedestrians, are sometimes dangerous and pose a road hazard. Incorrect decisions made by drivers or unintentional entry of a pedestrian into the road are the cause of many accidents. Nowadays, the new danger on the roads is the excessive use of mobile devices such as smart phones, which cause that society (and in particular young people) when moving, focuses less attention on the environment. Pedestrians are advised to wear reflective clothing or safety vests.

With the consent of the Mayor of Hydrolyze, Amateur Bobber, the Hydrolyze scouts run a social action aimed at improving safety at pedestrian crossings. In particular, they would like to take care of the safety of children and youth as part of their activities and to mark visibly on the streets within school buildings. On February 12, 2019. started activities consisting in placing horizontal information passwords in the passageways on the sidewalks and reflecting the barriers with reflective tape.

The end of their social activities involving the complete marking of 9 pedestrian crossings is planned by the end of February 2019. Because of school activities, the scouts devote themselves to the idea and the right cause in the afternoons.

How to survive the frosty weather behind the wheel?

Winter is in full swing and most of our territory covers snow and ice. If you want to arrive in a timely and safe way, you should take the following creations in your car to help you in winter difficulties.

Although it may seem self-evident, it often turns out in crisis situations that you are missing exactly what you need most. That’s why you should definitely not underestimate your travel preparation, especially if you’re going to the mountains. Practical aids and accessories can help you resolve the situation instantly, so you will save money and a lot of time spent waiting a few hours during a snow calamity for a towing service.

Mainly not to fall!

Snow chains are absolutely indispensable during the winter. In the case of snow calamity, which can occur very unexpectedly and quickly, you will not move from here. In addition, if you stay on the road, you will complicate the situation not only for other drivers but also for the work of road-drivers. There are also disposable plastic tapes that can temporarily increase traction.

Extra Tip:

Another option is to use rubber rescue bands that are easy to compile and do not take up much space in the trunk.

A good helper will be the starting cables. Help resolve problems with your discharged battery or other drivers in distress. Generally, it is worthwhile not to save on the length of the cables or on the wire diameter. The ideal aid is, of course, a travel starter station with sufficient capacity, with which you can also reliably start and do not need a second car.

The tow rope will help you when there is no other solution and snow chains or rescue belts are not enough.

If you fall in the snow, the shovel saves you from the deep snow or removes the obstacle to the car. There are also practical folding buckets or models with a pull-out handle. How else would you like to get snow from under the car or its surroundings? In many cases, no chains can help you without snow removal.

Good view

Because the vehicle needs to have a good look, the glass scraper is essentially obligatory in winter. There are many variants, for example in combination with a sleeve, if you do not have gloves. There is also a scraper attached to a brush that will make it much easier for you to work. Instead of a scraper, you can use a spray dryer in a spray that quickly removes frost and is simply applied. Foggy stop, which absorbs excess air humidity, prevents fogging and freezing of the interior of the windows, bacteria, mites, and molds in the upholstery, as well as the corrosion of interior body parts. Just hang it in the car interior.

You should have good visibility not only when driving. If you accidentally get in, you will certainly appreciate a good lamp. It is dark in the winter and it is important to see it well. Get the ideal headlamp to get your hands free. Practical is a torch with a magnet that is easily attached to the fender.

Other necessities and gadgets

On the Czech roads, only one reflective vest is included in the mandatory equipment, the vest must have reflective tapes, although the need to leave the vehicle in an inappropriate place can occur even when the car is fully occupied.

Before the car gets warm after the start, it takes a while. If you do not have built-in seat heating, you can buy heated covers that just plug into the lighter socket. The classic carcass is also a USB car charger that can be used for every trip not only for long journeys. For example, it will save you from a discharged phone in an emergency.

Take away the reflection from the Christmas tree

Ostrogoth police encourage visitors to visit the square around the stage at “Pickup”, on which stood a unique Christmas tree full of flares. Uniforms remind us that the reflections are intended for residents who, when walking around, should remove them from the Christmas tree.

Last Saturday, next to the “Pickup” police policemen, city guards, local government officials and residents of the city and the region decorated with reflective tapes next Christmas trees as part of the “Reflective Christmas tree” action. Reflective elements have been added to the hands of many residents to improve the visibility of unprotected road users.

– “Reflective Christmas tree” is an initiative popular in many places in our country. I am very pleased that she has also found recognition in Ostrogoth. It is directed at improving the safety of unprotected road users, e pedestrians, cyclists, motorists and motorcyclists. These people, equipped with reflective vests, pendants or reflective bands, are visible from a much greater distance by drivers of motor vehicles. It is the reflections and proper behavior on the road that in many cases save human life and health – says asp. Korzybski Locator, p.o. spokesman of the Ostrogoth police.

Uniforms remind us that reflective materials hung on Christmas trees in Ostrogoth and in front of commune offices in the Ostrogoth aviator are intended for residents. The organizers of the action will be most pleased when they take their flares home and give them their everyday use.

The clean thing, the way to school

Nearly 20,000 children and adolescents from 190 schools took part voluntarily yesterday in the Hesse-wide waste collection campaign “Clean School Way”, including the fifth graders of the Schiller School in Offenbach. By Marian Mendel

Their support association also received 500 euros donation from the lottery volume to promote the association work.

“Mrs. Wald, we have found a battery!” Excited storm the children to their class teacher. Sarah Wald has already pulled out the right bag. That’s what the fifth-graders of the Schilling already know: Batteries do not belong in the regular garbage. Equipped with reflective vests with reflective tapes, protective gloves and tongs, the tender-hearted and 11-year-olds on Tuesday clear the streets around their school of garbage – voluntarily. They are among the more than 19,500 students in Hesse who participate in the nationwide “Clean School Way” waste collection campaign.

Shortly after 9 o’clock, the 125 Schiller pupils swarm out. “There are real competitions about who gets the most rubbish,” says homeroom teacher Sarah Wald, who coordinates the project. “Sometimes you really have to slow them down, so they do not take anything strangers with them or put bulky waste in their bags.” The Hessian state government’s annual campaign since 2002 has been part of the teaching program for the fifth grade of their school. “It’s about having students take responsibility for their environment,” says Wald. “We just want to educate them a bit.”

Measured by the commitment that the children show in their purge, this works quite well. What the students find on the streets around Goethals is sometimes more than surprising. Two broken car tires on the roadside, a deranged deck chair in the bushes and a torn table leg in a parking lot are just three of the examples. “In preparation, we visited the recycling center with the class and looked at what can be disposed of there,” says Wald. She also organized a garbage-poor picnic in advance with her proteges. They should think about how they can avoid waste thanks to clever planning as much as possible. “For example, we took our classwork with us, which we always use at school.”

“Unfortunately, we have no way to weigh the collected garbage,” Headmaster Karin Marrakesh regrets later in the courtyard in front of the sports hall. That with the many, bulging bags that pile up there under the basketball hoop, a few kilograms come together but should be obvious.

When Andrea Koch from the Hessian Ministry of the Environment addresses the children to the children, he is full of praise: “Students from 190 schools have moved out this time to collect garbage – but I can tell you, you are one of the best.” And as icing on top Koch also has a financial contribution for the Overrefined Schilling. 500 euros from the lottery to promote the club work, he hands school director Karin Marrakesh in a deputy.

“Offenbach is our living room, and you have really cleaned it up,” says deputy ESO boss Christian Loose. He promises: “We will bring your collected waste to the recycling yard tomorrow.”

When should you give them priority?

In recent years, more and more people are switching to a bicycle, and unfortunately, not all participants of the movement are familiar with the rules – this applies to both cyclists and drivers.

Some cyclists can be accused of keeping a lot on the road. Adult people do not have to take any kind of exam to move their bike on the streets, but it is their duty to comply with traffic regulations. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. On the other hand, it happens that drivers expose cyclists to danger, especially when they do not give them the right priority.Cyclists can put reflective materials on their bicycles

When do you need to give way?

Road traffic regulations state that the driver is obliged to give way to the cyclist always when “the driver turns into a crossroads (both right and left) and the cyclist goes straight ahead on the road, bike lane, bike path or another part of the road that the driver intends to leave. ”

Look for eye contact

When we plan to turn into a crossroad, at the same time crossing the potential path of bikes (eg lanes for bicycles), we should look long before the turn to look in the mirrors and far to the front to locate cyclists coming from both sides. It is also important to clearly signal the intention of turning and speed reduction. Thanks to this, both the driver and the cyclist have a chance to notice each other and react accordingly. What’s next? – Directly before the turn, check the right-hand mirror and turn to the right to inspect the blind spot of our vehicle. In all potentially collision situations, we seek eye contact with the cyclist – then both parties are sure that they have noticed each other – they say trainers of the School of Safe Driving Renault.

The position of the side mirrors in the car is also important. The driver should see in them a fragment of the car’s outline. Thanks to this, he can make sure that there is no blind spot behind the rear pillars of the vehicle (a cyclist might be in it), which he would not be able to look at, turning his head away. So cyclists should wear reflective tape, whether on the hands, feet or on the body.

What can a cyclist do?

Safety is also greatly affected by the behavior of people riding bicycles. – Cyclists often forget that before entering a ride for cyclists, they should be careful, look around and slow down. If there is no such passage, and there is only a pedestrian crossing, one should get off the bike and carry it through the belts – says Zbigniew Weseli, director of the School of Safe Driving Renault.

Cyclists should also ensure that drivers see them well, especially after dark. Then the lighting of the bicycle is a must (during the day the regulations require only a red reflector at the back), the reflective vest will not hurt either. Although it is not obligatory, it is also worth riding in a helmet – in case of an accident, it can even save a life.

Protect pet from fireworks

The leaves fall from the trees, the wind sometimes blows stormily around our ears, the days get shorter and the nights longer. A fun time to spend with family and (animal) friends. And just to get a breath of fresh air and go for a walk with the dog. But the winter period also requires attention. A veterinarian from Sterkliniek Vets West-Friesland warns pet owners about the dangers that can occur if there is no reflective clothing during holidays and dark months. “We would like to give some tips and advice, so that people can safely pass through the winter and the new year with their pet,” says veterinarian and practice manager Renate Oudhuis.

Now it gets dark early, it is extra important to pay attention to the safety of a pet. Make sure that not only the pet is clearly visible, but the person who discharges him or her, so that the person is not overlooked by other road users. An accident is in a small corner and can have major consequences for the health of the pet if it is injured. Therefore, choose good lighting options for the pet, such as reflective tapes, a reflective vest or, for example, a safety light to attach to the dog leash. And try to avoid badly lit footpaths and cycle paths.

Act like this if you have a breakdown with your car at night

If the damage we suffer at night it is even more important to make ourselves visible. Legally we are only obliged to use the triangles and the vest with reflective tapes, but the more we make ourselves see, the better.

Every driver must be prepared to know how to act in the event of a possible accident or a breakdown that forces them to stop on the road. Batteries, tires and engine failures, the main reasons why drivers needed assistance, according to the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT). A few situations that make many cars an obstacle for the rest of the road users, so a car parked on the road must always be signaled as quickly as possible.

In order for this action to be carried out without endangering the safety of the occupants of the stopped vehicle and to be carried out in an appropriate manner, our car must be well marked when it is standing on the edge of the road for our safety and that of the rest of the traffic. This is especially important, especially when the breakdown we suffer at night.

The law requires that we all carry in the car two emergency triangles and a high visibility vest and turn on the “warning”, or intermittent failure, but any help is too small to warn the rest that we are on the edge of the road, or even occupying part of it when the shoulder is too narrow or we could not move the car due to the fault.

From Autocasión they emphasize that the triangles must be placed in view and far enough away to be useful. It is useless to place them near the car because a car is bigger than the triangle and it looks better. The triangles must be placed at least 50 m before the problem so that other drivers move with caution before reaching our side and, in the case that we have been standing at the exit of a curve, they must be in a straight section. before this to be effective.

If the damage we suffer at night it is even more important to make ourselves visible. Legally we are only obliged to use the triangles and the vest, but the more we make ourselves see, the better. In the market, there are several devices that will help us to be more visible, one of the most recent is the one known as Help Flash. It is a torch with the shape of a spherical cap that emits light in all directions. It has magnetic support, which when attached to the body of the car adheres and automatically turns on, and two functions:

-Demons of orange light: is the presence of alert function. It is very striking because being LED gives very fast flashes.

-Light lamp: it illuminates us and it is practical to, for example, see the screws when we change a wheel since it sticks magnetically and leaves our hands free.

There are more options in the market of lights to signal our presence, but not all are approved. A warning about Help Flash is that, although it is approved, it does not replace the car’s emergency turn signals, triangles or the vest with reflective materials. It is a compliment. If we do not put the triangles (as long as the traffic conditions allow us to do it safely) and we do not turn on the warning of the car, they can find us.

Finally, finally, it is time to ask for help. Carrying the roadside assistance phone by hand in the phone book or in a visible place in the glove compartment will save time to contact the insurance company, especially in times of nervousness. It is important to identify yourself and the more detailed the information provided, the greater the probability that the services will arrive as soon as possible, both to attend to the injured and to remove the damaged vehicle from the road and to restore circulation.

Always keep in mind …

  1. Move aside so as not to disturb: Whenever possible, the vehicle should be stopped on the shoulder and act calmly so that the emergency situation is as dangerous and uncomfortable as possible. In case the road does not have a shoulder, it is best to leave it as far as possible on the right side, bearing in mind that it is necessary to avoid exits of curves, changes of grade or areas of poor visibility.
  1. Activate the emergency lights: If the fault occurs on the motorway or highway, in low visibility conditions or between sunrise and sunset, in addition to turning on the emergency lights, the position lights will also start up, and in its case, those of gauge. However, much of the damage to the vehicles is electrical, which makes it impossible to use warnings and wired devices, so the vehicle will not be visible to other drivers. To avoid this type of situation, it is necessary to have a luminous device that allows the car to be signaled without having to have an electricity point.
  1. Put on the reflective vest: Once the vehicle has been placed in a suitable area, the regulations require the driver to put on the reflective vest before descending from the car. A rule that makes it essential to always keep this garment inside the car. Also, and although it is not mandatory that the rest of occupants also wear with the vest if they do they can avoid possible abuses.
  1. Place the triangles of security: When the conditions of circulation allow their use, the law requires to place the triangles 50 meters from the damaged vehicle, ie about 80 steps. However, this obligation will be such only when from that point it can be visible at a distance of 100 meters (twice the distance that separates us from our vehicle). This separation will guarantee greater safety and allow other drivers to react in time and move with caution before reaching the height of the obstacle. This circumstance usually occurs when the damaged vehicle stops at a grade or a curve, where it is advisable to place it at the beginning of the section.

In case the road is of double direction, it will be necessary to place the two triangles, one in front of the car and another one behind, while, if it is a one-way road, only one triangle will be installed in the part. back

  1. Be safe and ask for help: Once the vehicle has been signaled, it’s time to get safe. Both the driver and the occupants must be in an area where they do not distract the rest of the drivers, nor do they pose a new obstacle, and always off the road.

800 safety vests for passers-by

800 safety vests are passed on in the Dusseldorf area by Cotes Kresge, Fuehrer and free of charge.

Blue light organizations around Dusseldorf award free safety vests to cyclists, pedestrians or as part of a mission. Safety vests with reflective material.

A total of 800 bright yellow safety vests with reflective tapes can be provided free of charge to the blue light organizations, ire rescue, police and fire brigade, and church employees in the municipalities of Dusseldorf, Hofstadter an deer Miraa and Dusseldorf – to pedestrians, cyclists and moped riders or to persons who are around one Accident in public space. This action, which is supported by the police, the municipalities and the Civil Protection Satyriasis, is part of the initiative “Geminate.Richer”.

It started with 400 warning vests in September 2017. Due to the good response communities and civil defense, Satyriasis decided to finance another 400 safety vests.
