3 COLORS TO AVOID IF DRIVING AT NIGHT

Official statistics of the traffic police showed a dangerous trend: the number of fatal accidents increased by 8.2% at the beginning of the year. And the reason for this is the violations of both sides – both drivers and pedestrians. To avoid this, you need to not only monitor your behavior but also pay attention to details. For example, how you are dressed – are your clothes visible at night? WomanHit.ru will tell you about three colors that you should not wear when it gets dark outside.

Red

According to foreign statistics, red cars are in the top 3 in terms of the number of accidents. The reason is that in the dark it is easy to confuse them with brake light, signs on the road, or red traffic light – anything can distract the driver. For the same reason, we do not advise you to stop on the road for a quick car repair if you are wearing red clothes. Especially if it matches the color of the car – other drivers may not notice you against its background.

White

White cars are the most popular in the world – for this reason, you will easily merge with the color of the vehicle and increase the likelihood of collisions with a car parked behind you. It is also dangerous during fog – a person in white clothes is simply not visible. Be sure to keep a reflective vest in a bright color – yellow or orange – in the glove compartment. Put it on before getting out of the car, even if you need to be outside for a minute. Believe me, life is more important than saving a couple of seconds.

The black

This color cannot be seen in the dark due to the peculiarities of the perception of shades by our eyes. You will merge with the general background if there is no constant light source next to you. Plus, a quick shallow figure, even under lighting, is not easy to track if you need to cross the road. When deciding to do this, do not rely on the driver’s conscience – always make eye contact with him, making sure he can see you, before crossing the pedestrian crossing. And if you are out of town, be sure to wear a reflective vest and do not run across, if the car is moving at speed, it is better to wait.

Electric scooters like bikes, green light throughout Italy: the rules

From January 1st, electric scooters can circulate on the roads of all cities in Italy. With the publication in the Official Gazette of Law no. 160, electric scooters are equated to bicycles, therefore they are recognized in all respects as “vehicles” by the highway code and will be able to circulate in the city.

Street electric scooters must not exceed 20 km / h and must not have a power exceeding 500 watts. While they must be equipped with front and rear lights.

As with bicycles, a driving license is not required in the case of a scooter. No insurance or helmet obligation. In the evening and at night, however, you must wear a reflective jacket. Under no circumstances will it be possible to bring a passenger.

The equation of these vehicles with bicycles was desired by many municipalities to decongest traffic and to put an order in a jungle of rules. But it is precisely on the safety rules that many doubts remain.

How to prepare a car for a holiday trip? What to take with you?

A holiday trip is a great opportunity to check the technical condition of your car. We present what exactly should be checked and what tools to take to ensure that the journey goes without unpleasant surprises. The car can break down at any time, and when it happens depends primarily on its owner. If periodic maintenance is not supervised and the wear of individual components is not monitored, the car will fail faster than you might expect. It is not a problem if the car “stops” near the house: then someone we know or relate to will tow us quickly to the garage. This is no longer possible when the car refuses to obey far away on the road. Sometimes a trivial problem is enough for a forgetful driver to have his hands tied. I am talking, for example, about the typical “catching the gum”. Theoretically, replacing the wheel should be handled by every person sitting behind the wheel, but in practice, the situation is complicated by, for example, no jack, a suitable key or … no air in the spare wheel, not to mention the fact that not all drivers know how to start the replacement wheels. There are many more such situations, so thorough preparation for the trip will save us nerves later.

Below we present what to look for in the car before leaving and what items to take with you to get there safely and without nerves.

What to check (running gear): is there a spare wheel in the car? Are there any tools needed to change the wheel? Is the lowering of the suspended spare wheel working? Is it possible to loosen the bolts in the wheels? In what condition are the tires? Are the brakes “holding”? is the handbrake blocked? Is there any play in the suspension and bearings?

What to check (drive train): is the engine overheating? What is the engine oil level? Does the clutch slip? Are the wrists knocking? What is the condition of the accessory belt? How is the exhaust attached?

It is best to start preparing the car for the trip by checking everything related to the spare wheel, i.e. tire condition, pressure level, and even its presence (in many cars with LPG installation, its place is taken by a gas cylinder and the wheel is usually in the garage). Then you need to check if we can remove them. In many cars, the “reserve” is mounted under the boot floor, in a special basket. Over time, its lowering mechanism will rust, seriously obstructing access to the wheel. Before leaving, it is worth lubricating it and starting it.

Then we have to make sure that, in the event of a puncture, the wheel should be unscrewed without any problems. The obvious condition is to take a jack (and a crank to it) and a wrench with the size matching the bolts (it is good to buy more solid than the factory one). If you have anti-theft bolts, don’t forget to take a lock nut with you, the so-called thieves. Before the trip, it is good to loosen the bolts of all wheels and tighten them back – then we will reduce the risk of jamming the bolts and we will not have to “struggle” on the road.

What to take with you on a long journey by car? In every car going on a long journey, there should be a so-called essential with the most necessary (not only for repairs) things. To have quick access to it, it is better not to put it deep in a packed trunk. The toolbox should contain the following items:

first-aid kit

toilet paper

template of the statement of the perpetrator of the accident

warning triangle

reflective vest

cloth (to be put under something)

gloves

fuses and bulbs

a piece of wire

zippers

reinforced tape

a knife

cockpit rinse aid (for emergency engine start )

a flashlight

phone charger (efficient operation of the 12V socket required)

In autumn weather, let’s take the foot off the gas

Rainfall, fast dusk, and morning mists are inherent elements of the autumn weather. Changeable weather conditions combined with road bravado can contribute to fatal accidents. Therefore, we appeal to drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists to behave responsibly on the road.

The advent of the autumn weather has made road conditions more unpredictable and dangerous. Frequent rainfall, but also falling leaves make the road wet and slippery, and the braking distance is significantly longer. Remember that these conditions are often just as dangerous as snow and ice. Therefore, we appeal to everyone, both drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians, to exercise particular caution and prudence.

Remember that exceeding the speed limit and not maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle in front, combined with a slippery surface, significantly increases the braking distance. In extreme cases, the driver may skid and lose control of the car. In such conditions, overtaking, passing, and cornering can be very dangerous.

Be especially careful near pedestrian crossings. We also address a special appeal to pedestrians not to enter the crossing at the last moment, directly in front of an oncoming vehicle. Even at a pedestrian crossing, make sure that the driver has time to brake. Of course, it is the pedestrian who has priority at the crossing, but here the principle of limited trust applies.

Every pedestrian and cyclist should also remember their safety and make sure they are visible. A reflective vest, a key ring, a wristband, or even an ordinary flashlight will make it easier to be seen by an oncoming driver while driving on a dimly lit road.

As a reminder: every pedestrian walking on the road outside built-up areas after dusk must have a reflector placed in a visible way for drivers. Although road traffic regulations do not require the use of vests and reflective elements in a built-up area, they significantly improve visibility. They give drivers valuable time to react correctly – often saving health and lives.

Preventive reflective stand – join the reflective action!

To ensure road safety, Inowrocław County financed the purchase of several thousand reflective vests and reflective elements. They are distributed by police officers who carry out the actions and hand them over to road users. Come and equip yourself and your children with reflective elements.

A reflective preventive stand with reflectors will be organized on Thursday (26/11/20) from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the District Police Headquarters in Inowrocław at Toruńska Street. Policewomen will hand them over to the residents. Don’t miss the opportunity, come, and take care of your safety!

This type of preventive action by the police is aimed at preventing road accidents. Therefore, equipping pedestrians and cyclists with vests, badges, and reflective tapes is to protect them and raise awareness that they can affect their safety. Remember that a driver can see a pedestrian equipped with reflectors even from a distance of several hundred meters. Then it will safely pass him.

It’s worth being reflective. Wear reflectors because they are worth the weight of life!

Safety on the road

In Poland, mismatching speed to traffic conditions is the most common cause of fatal road accidents. Driving at speed increases the risk of death and serious injury.

Police warn drivers against recklessness and driving too fast

Failure to adjust the speed to traffic conditions is a factor that causes the loss of control over the vehicle, which may result in a serious collision with another vehicle or hitting a pedestrian.

When sitting behind the wheel of a vehicle, we should be aware that we are responsible not only for our safety but also for the life and health of other road users. Let’s avoid recklessness and risky behavior that lead to tragedy. We should also remember to observe the road and its surroundings, especially in the area of pedestrian crossings. According to the regulations, when approaching a pedestrian crossing, the driver is obliged to exercise particular caution and give way to pedestrians on the crossing.

We appeal for prudence and common sense on the roads, but also culture and kindness towards other road users. We remind young managers that it does not pay to sacrifice their lives and put others at risk to experience moments of emotions and impress their peers.

The current season is favorable for two-wheeler users

We remind motorcyclists, mopeds, and cyclists that, like pedestrians, they are unprotected road users and, in their case, disregarding traffic regulations can lead to serious consequences.

Cyclists should ensure that they are visible on the road, even in nice weather. A reflective vest and functional lights make drivers see the cyclist in advance, which allows them to safely overtake. In contrast, wearing a helmet is the most effective way to relieve head injuries resulting from both bicycle, moped, and motorbike accidents. Let’s also take care of the proper technical condition of your two-wheeler.

Enjoying the nice weather and free time, let’s use the road in a way that does not conflict with the law and does not endanger other road users. Regardless of your weekend plans, let’s keep safety in mind.

Police will distribute vests and reflective bands to pedestrians and cyclists

Reflectors intended for road users are a gift of the Starosty in Nakło. They are to improve road safety in the autumn and winter season

There are 250 reflective vests and 400 shiny bands. Reflectors were bought by the County Office in Nakło and handed over to the police to be used during activities carried out on the county’s routes.

“Due to the prevailing pandemic, it was impossible to officially hand over the luminous elements, but this very useful gift has already found its way to the unit in Nakło,” assures the subcommands. Justyna Andrzejewska, press officer of the KPP in Nakło.

As we learn – policemen from KPP in Nakło will soon start handing over the received reflectors to those who are least visible on the routes in autumn and winter, i.e. pedestrians and cyclists.

“Wearing any luminous elements always increases visibility on the road and thus improves safety,” remind the officers.

Be visible at night by bike/motorbike/scooter

The upsurge in soft mobility in recent months is currently associated with shorter days, which increases the risk of accidents when traveling by bicycle, scooter, or electric scooter.

The Toulouse -based startup Road-Light is launching the Clic-Light V2 today, this small safety vest with integrated lighting, which allows you to be seen in traffic. Associated with remote control, it can trigger a certain number of light signals, such as the stoplights (on a motorcycle), position lights, hazard lights, right-left turn signal, and fog lights, all at the level of the field of vision of the car user.

On motorcycles/scooters, it is possible to connect the Remote control to the vehicle’s rear signaling system, using the 8-wire cable. In this version, the Position Light comes on automatically as soon as the vehicle’s ignition key is turned and the vehicle’s signaling commands are automatically synchronized with the Clic-Light.

Among the small appreciable functions, one will note the recharging in USB C, the adaptation of the brightness according to the environment, the autonomy of 10 days, or the effect “progressive sweep” of the indicators.

CYCLISTS: BEING SEEN IS VITAL!

With the winter passage, the City of Besançon recalls the importance of being well seen when traveling on two wheels. The Highway Code underlines several mandatory types of equipment: White or yellow front headlight, red rear headlight, white or yellow front reflector (reflector), red rear reflector (reflector), reflectors visible from the side (reflectors attached to the spokes of the wheels or tires with reflective sidewalls) and pedal reflectors.

Wearing a retro-reflective vest is also compulsory for any cyclist (and his passenger) traveling outside built-up areas, at night or when visibility is insufficient. In town, it is strongly recommended.
