The first candidates of the “yellow vests” for the EP elections

The protesters’ leadership from the middle of November of the so-called yellow vests announced their intention to create their own list for the May elections to the European Parliament. For now, 10 names of potential candidates were given. None of them has ever been a politician.

The movement of the “yellow vests” began protests on November 17 in the opposition to the announcement to raise the excise tax on fuels. Because the first protested drivers, who put on reflective vests, the movement adopted the name of the “yellow vests”. Over time, it transformed into a broader initiative against the rising costs of living and politics led by President Emmanuel Macron.

Reflective fabrics and reflective tapes on the reflective vest make them visible.

Nurse, accountant, and housewife

The movement was created from the bottom up and did not have any organized structure. After a few weeks, however, a group of leaders emerged. Now they announced their desire to submit their electoral list to the European Parliament elections. In total, 79 names are to be found on it. In the first place will be the 31-nurse Ingrid Levavasseur, who became one of the faces of the protests of the “yellow vests”.

For the time being, the names of the first 10 potential candidates have been revealed. None of them has ever dealt with politics. The list includes the names of people who have previously performed the usual competition – an accountant, a forklift operator or a housewife. “We want to create a list that reflects what French citizenship looks like and show that from the first day of our protests we are independent and unrelated to any political party,” explained one of the leaders of the “yellow vests” Hayk Shahinyan.

Lots of enticing “yellow vests”

The list announced by the protestant movement was called the Civic Assembly of the Initiative. In addition to issuing candidates for the EP elections, it is to be used to collect signatures for a city proposal for a referendum on economic reforms in France. In order for it to be organized, at least 700,000 need to be organized. signatures. An opinion poll carried out in December by the IFOP showed that it would have voted 13% on the electoral list created by the “yellow vests”. French.

This potential has already been noticed by political parties. First of all, radical. The supporters of the “yellow vests” were supported by the National Assembly under the command of Marine Le Pen, the extreme left-wing France of Nieujarzmiona Jean-Luc Melenchon and the French Communist Party. The words “Yellow Vest” were registered as a trademark, a close associate of Le Pen Florian Philippot, who last year founded his own nationalist party Patriots.

Half a thousand vests went to kindergartens and nurseries

300 reflective vests were founded by the Bridgestone factory and the rest of the city.

Reflective vests with images of a koala bear and an elephant have reached children from Stargard kindergartens and a municipal nursery today. Some of them were funded by the Bridgestone factory.

“We know how important safety is, we produce tires,” says Pieter, president of Bridgestone Stargard. “We often take part in various actions aimed at promoting safety, including wearing reflective clothing with reflective fabrics by pedestrians and cyclists.”

The children did not hide their satisfaction with the vests.

“They are great! the little ones were happy. We will wear them on walks.”

For over half a thousand nurseries and kindergarten children, vests were picked up at the City Hall by the headmasters or employees of these institutions.

This is another preventive action in the city. Recently, reflections with reflective tapes were handed out to the cyclists by the municipal police, as well as members of the presidential advisory team, who handed them over to the oldest inhabitants of the city.

Backpack cover for elementary school students

The primary school students are happy about reflective backpack covers with reflective tapes. Landrieu, Verkehrswacht, and police want to make a contribution to the safety of children in traffic.

For pedestrians and cyclists, the risk of being involved in an accident is about three times higher at night than during the day. Rain, snow and dazzling on wet roads can increase the risk to pedestrians by up to ten times. Particularly at risk are children on school trips in the winter months. A contribution to increased safety is provided by backpack covers. As part of the campaign “Get Off Gas” of the Federal Ministry of Transport, these are now available free of charge. The first copies recently distributed representatives of the district, traffic guard and police to elementary school students.

Children have to shine and reflect

The responsible persons appeal to parents to dress their children appropriately in the dark season. Especially when cycling, it is important to leave the children only with a traffic-safe vehicle on the road, the lighting is working properly. Children who go to school in the dark should additionally protect themselves with reflective fabrics of clothing and satchels. The reflective backpack covers made of reflective materials, which can be pulled over the school bag, is helpful. This creates more safety through good visibility.

Police officers call for caution at the wheel

Christmas is coming fast. Cars are arriving on the streets, traffic problems may arise. Police officers turn to all drivers for safety, compliance with traffic rules and patience. The pedestrians, in turn, remind about the obligation to wear reflective vests, especially in the morning and evening hours. “In this way, we will avoid many unnecessary road events and we will be able to sit down at the Christmas Eve table,” they tell the uniform.

The uniforms appeal to drivers to be particularly careful. “Non-adaptation of speed to weather conditions and the insufficient distance between vehicles leads to numerous accidents and collisions,” they observe.

“We also appeal to pedestrians to wear reflective vests with reflective tapes in a visible manner to drivers. It is the duty of all pedestrians who move on a roadway or roadside outside of a built-up area after dark. It’s worth taking care of your safety by wearing a reflective element also in the built-up area. The reflector is recommended to be placed at the knees, hands, around the center of the chest and back, then we will be sure that they are clearly visible to other road users, especially drivers. We remind you that after dark a pedestrian dressed in a dark outfit is seen by the driver of the vehicle from a distance of about 40 meters. He will see the pedestrian with a reflective vest with reflective fabric from a distance of 150 meters. Such a distance will allow the driver to slow down and safely avoid the pedestrian. The law provides for a fine for the lack of glare after dark outside the built-up area,” they explain.

Police officers, parish priests and motorcyclists handed out reflective vests

“Visible = Safe”, under this slogan uniforms appealed yesterday to children and youth gathered in the church. St. Nicholas for wearing after dusk of clothing. For incentives, they were given armbands.

The policemen command for the second time together with the parish priest of Saint. Nicholas and motorcyclists conducted a retro-reflective action in the church. Activities were conducted under the slogans “Visible = Safe”. The goal of the undertaking is to improve the safety of the least protected road users, like pedestrians. After the rituals, the uniform, along with the clergy and motorcyclists, were handed to all children participating in the services of the reflective bands which made of reflective materials, a total of 250. They were founded by the parish and motorcyclists from the SRC  group. In addition, the uninformed in the church held a short lecture on road safety.

Many road users forget about the obligation to wear reflectors outside the built-up area. For 4 years, the provision of the Road Traffic Act obliges pedestrians to place reflections in a visible way for drivers. The mentioned retro-reflective elements can be any objects attached to clothing, reflective vests, bands, stickers, leashes, etc. It is recommended to place them at the knee, hand and chest and back. You can also wear reflective clothing made of reflective fabrics. Thanks to this protection, we will be sure that they are visible to other traffic participants. All activities aimed at increasing the safety of unprotected road users are part of the campaign entitled. “I’m safe.”

Nationwide Action “Days of Visibility”

Good to come through the dark season. The police gave tips and checks to pupils and kindergartens.

Such a police presence did not exist in the small town. Police chief Simone Speller and police master Christian Salk had already set up the laser device on Thursday on the L 73 at 6:30 am. Within three hours, 55 vehicles were measured. The leader was a 35-year-old Ford Mondeo driver, who drove through the town at 73 instead of the predetermined 50km / h. After deducting three km / h tolerance, the man was lucky and only had to pay 35 Euros.

But speed was just one side. Much more was the “Days of Visibility” campaign, which was held nationwide for the first time. In front of the school stood Ute Striker and Hartman Press, traffic educators of the police station. They checked if parents were on the road with proper lighting. In four vehicles defects were detected. Since most children now use the school bus in the dark season, only a few girls and boys come by bicycle. A total of eight bicycles were checked. Three were missing the spoke reflectors. Eckhart Seidel and High Commissioner Axel had reflectors with them and equipped the cyclists with it.

“In the dark, the risk of accidents is three times higher than during the day. Therefore, you should also make sure to be safer on the road, “advised Eckhart Seidel the primary school students. Almost 750 pedestrians and around 2,600 cyclists died in road traffic in the state of Brandenburg last year. Often they are simply overlooked. Bright clothes and reflective clothing are the nuts and bolts. While reflective materials can still be seen 140 meters away, the visibility of dark clothing is only just under 25 meters. “Parents should pay attention when buying the clothes. There are also reflective fabrics, zippers and seams, “says Seidel. Students of the elementary school thought it was great yesterday that instead of math and German traffic education was on the timetable. They were allowed to test the speedometer. Police master Christian Salk showed them how to track down speeders. “The red dot must hit the vehicle, then press the trigger,” Salk demands.

145 primary school students

Eleven-year-old Lea was amazed at how slow motorists drove after she had discovered the laser device. “Otherwise, they drive much faster.”, says the student. 145 pupils from primary school were included in the nationwide campaign. The children and educators of the daycare did not miss the opportunity. Christian Salk almost brought the laser device to its knees so that the tots could also take a look. Only the youngest had to content themselves with a look into the police car. Even before the daycare, checks were carried out early in the morning. There two cars were tracked down, their light was not in order.

So first graders master the way to school

They are barely larger than the knapsack they carry on their backs. And they are excited, a whole new period of life begins. And for some, the path may not even be 100 percent. Around 1,200 girls and boys from the Höxter district have their very first day of school on Thursday, 30 August. At the latest from the following Friday, the little ones will go on the daily way to school. So that the steppes arrive safely, city, police and traffic watch gives important tips.

On foot

Most children are at school. The youngsters did not only gain experience. “Movement and fresh air before the class start also increase the ability to concentrate,” informs the Höxter district police, but because they perceive their surroundings differently from adults, they are in traffic especially at risk.

Go the way up to ten times

The Verkehrswacht advises parents to walk the path five to ten times with their offspring. Even at the beginning of school, the adults should still be there. “Because there is more traffic than at holiday time,” says Oliver. Parents should not forget their role model function, especially with regard to traffic lights and crossing aid and mobile phone use.

First of all, the Verkehrswacht recommends that the children do not go to school in groups. “Until they are safe on the way to school and recognize danger spots,” says Thane, because alone, the little ones usually learned better and were less distracting. “Thereafter, nothing speaks against dating,” says the traffic expert. Especially in the dark season, Thane advises “visible reflective clothing.” Safety vests, reflectors, satchels or flashing shoes which made with reflective fabrics, “There is even reflective yarn, especially creative parents can knit hats.”

Police are present on the first days

In the first few days, the police will be present on the school routes. “Help and education are in the foreground,” a statement said, and officials are also announcing increased speed measurements and checks on child seats, bus and bicycle traffic.

By bicycle

By bike only older children should go to school. “It’s not until they’re 14 that the ability to ride safely develops,” the police said, adding that the ability to focus on road traffic over a longer period of time does not train boys and girls until they are about eight years old.

By bus

Not every village in the district has its own elementary school. Many males will take the school bus. “Bus driving should also be practiced,” advises Oliver Thane, “Dangerous situations usually appear when getting in,” says the expert. Therefore, not only the way to the stop but also the getting in and out as well as sitting down should be trained. The school bus stops are on the right side of the street.

Parental taxis should use parking in the area

“On the way back, things can be different”, Thane points out, so children could suddenly run across the street behind the bus, so the police are also calling for stopping school buses to “pass by in two directions at walking pace”.

By car

The most convenient way to get to school is certainly the parental taxi. If you bring your own child to school by car, you should not chauffeur it all the way to the schoolyard. “Due to the pressure of the vehicle, there is a high-risk potential,” the city of Höxter informs on NW request, “Parking space in the area should be used for getting in and out.”

Children demand respect

The dark season holds danger in the traffic. This is what the action “Can you see me?”

In the past year, a total of 205 children in road traffic crashed in the city triangle. The dark season holds particularly many dangers. And this is exactly what this week saw the joint “Can you see me?” Action by the police and road patrol yesterday in the southern district.

In the intersection motorists were torn from their morning routine: Several large clusters of yellow glowing figures had positioned themselves at various points of the intersection and beamed the drivers in the dark from afar. These drove automatically slower to curious to see what was happening so unusual on the intersection. It was the children of the local daycare center and St. Josef, as well as students of the GGS, who demanded the attention of the drivers equipped with reflective safety vests and lanterns, with rattles and shouts and a large banner. “Can you see me?” Read on the poster.

One or the other motorist, who had been on the move, was stopped, enlightened and admonished by the policemen who accompanied the action. Drivers should know that children are unpredictable on the road, that pedestrians are less well off in the dark months, and reducing the speed protects the weakest road users, in this case, children as pedestrians, traffic police officer Michael summed up the key messages for motorists.

On the other hand, the children were taught that they had to make themselves visible to the rest of the road users, such as reflective safety vests, reflective materials on shoes, clothing, and backpacks which made of reflective fabric or just with the help of newly purchased lanterns, which were used for the first time, as Otto Mahler, chairman of the Traffic Watch told. Since 2015, the non-profit organization regularly distributes safety vests in day-care centers. Over the past three years, more than 1000 pieces have come together. Now 700 lanterns with the traffic signs “Tempo 30” have been added, which were distributed in advance to 40 Remscheid daycare centers. “The lanterns were financed by the Verkehrswacht Remscheid,” said Mahler. Developed by the Remscheid company Hamper and manufactured by the company from Wuppertal they should provide more security, at least make attentive and sensitize. “It is another building block in the task to increase the visibility of the children,” said Mahler.

In the St. Josef daycare center, the lanterns were not only used by the preschool children, who were standing on a green strip at the crossroads. “We have also used the lanterns on our Martin train to secure the movement and to make the parents aware of it,” said Kita director Stephanie Radix.

After all, even parents who drive their children to school themselves can sometimes become a source of danger on the morning way to school.

Police officers handed out fines but also well-visible bags

Police officers checked more than one hundred vehicles and 28 drivers committed a misdemeanor. On Friday, police spokeswoman Marketa John summarized the findings of the traffic safety event that took place in Melnik on Wednesday afternoon. Police officers went into action concentrating above all on seat belts, holding a mobile phone behind the wheel – as well as using the blinkers when leaving the roundabout.

The use of belts by the driver or co-driver has been omitted in six cases. Even seven times police officers fined for a poor technical condition. And three times the speed was detected, John recalled frequent (and repetitive) offenses. “One driver drove under the influence of alcohol,” she added. “He breathed in a single promise,” she said, that the value found remained below the threshold separating the offense from the offense.

However, police officers gave not only sanctions but also reflexive items. Already in the morning, they focused on the visibility of pedestrians. For children, they had reflective tapes, drivers got reflective vests and seniors bags with reflective fabrics. “The most reflective materials were distributed in the village, where the bus stop is illuminated. Walkers in dark clothes are almost invisible here, “added John.

Over 20% of cyclists are out in the evening without light

Correct bike lighting plays a key role in preventing accidents. A sample survey in the nine largest Swiss cities has shown that the correct use of bicycle lights still requires a great deal of action. More than 20% of the cyclists were without light at night and endangered themselves and other road users. More than 50% of cyclists in the city of Geneva were without light and reflective vests. With this survey, the TCS wants to set an example in the context of the “Day of Light” and to raise awareness of this important topic.

Of the sampled bikes, almost 80% were properly equipped with front and rear lights. Sometimes the lighting was poor. The results in the different Swiss cities were very different. The leader was the city of Aargau, where 100% of the tested bicycles were underway with the right lighting. At the bottom, the city of Geneva, where only about half of the tested bicycles with proper light were traveling.

“Light-biking without light not only puts one’s own safety at risk but anyone without light endangers all other road users Lack of visibility is a common cause of accidents Many of these accidents could be avoided with little effort,” says Helmut, TCS traffic safety expert.

At dawn and at night, the risk of the accident is three times higher than during the day. If there is rain, snow or backlighting, the accident risk is even up to ten times higher. Correct light is important in two ways: it increases the safety of cyclists because they can better recognize and at the same time they are perceived by other road users earlier and better.

Regulations in Switzerland

Concerning bicycle light, there are clear rules: the headlight must be white, the taillight must be red. Both bicycle light must not flash and must be visible from 100 meters away. Basically, almost every standard bicycle light meets the legal requirements. Nevertheless, there are better and less suitable light for different types of bicycles and need (see TCS (2016) test report). It is important in any case, that you are completely visible.

Reflective clothing is important

In unfavorable conditions, a person wearing dark clothing is only visible to drivers from a distance of 25 meters. That’s often too late. Clothes with reflective fabrics are already visible from a distance of 140 meters and allow the other road users more time to react. The fact that luminous vests will not prevail in wide for practical and fashionable reasons, fashion industry and trade have been recognized. Meanwhile, there are already numerous products on the market, in which security and style can be quite combined. The MADE VISIBLE campaign by the Traffic Safety Fund aims to actively promote exactly this development and offers on its homepage a helpful overview of solutions that are already available and suitable for everyday use.
