Michael School wants to tame the traffic

For many years, the delivery and collection traffic around the Michaelschule in the district of Bickern has been increasing and many motorists do not obey the traffic rules: parking is prohibited, excessive speed in the streets around the Michaelschule. Parents, the municipal security service, and the staff repeatedly asked individual parents about the wrongdoing, but only a few parents changed their behavior.

A project group led by parent representative Oliver Schomaker is now trying to find a long-term solution to the situation, and in doing so they discover the “traffic tamers”, a program by Angela Baker-Price that is published by the NRW mobility network. The aim is a permanent change in behavior among all those involved.

In the first step, with the support of the Wanne-Eickel traffic watch, all children received a reflective safety vest so that they can be seen by all road users, especially in the dark half of the year. They should wear vests and come to the school gates without a car. To motivate the children to wear the vests, each child collects a star for their class when they wear the vests. If the number of stars collected is set, a joint reward is given, which the children can determine themselves.

In the first week, this is already implemented by most of the children: of the current 413 students, over 360 children wore their vests on Thursday (24.9.2020) and came to school on foot.

Further promotions for the current school year

Little traffic tamers are supposed to tame the dangerous dragon cars by walking their way to school. Big traffic tamers should increasingly abandon their cars. Interested parents are also trained by the police so that they can support all children on their way to school.

In the main phase, a project week is to take place this school year, which deals with further ideas and possibilities for mobility education.

The acting headmistress, Ms. Sezer, looks confidently into the future and speaks of again for everyone involved: “Children themselves become role models in road traffic and encourage their parents to behave accordingly”.

The children are increasingly moving independently and safely in traffic. The environment is protected as not as many car exhaust gases are emitted. The neighbors of the Michaelschule can also drive the streets more easily at the start of school.

All children who move before the start of the class have a big advantage because they arrive at school more alert. The first need for communication and exercise is satisfied by the way to school and these children can get involved in learning much better.

Mandatory car equipment. The fines are threatening

Mandatory equipment of the car is indicated by the ordinance of the Minister of Infrastructure of December 31, 2002, on the technical conditions of vehicles and the scope of their necessary equipment. Each car should be provided with a fire extinguisher, a reflective vest and a warning triangle with an approval mark.

The fire extinguisher must be placed in an easily accessible place if necessary. It does not count its expiration date. Lack of a fire extinguisher exposes the driver to a fine of 20 to 500 PLN. The driver can be granted the same mandate for the lack of a warning triangle. In addition, failure to report it in the event of a breakdown is punishable by 150 PLN.

Depending on the current regulations in Poland, a first aid kit is not an obligatory car equipment. However, it is worth having it. Similarly, with a tow rope, reflective safety vest, spare wheel or additional bulbs. There is no requirement to equip the vehicle with these elements but are often used on the road.

The editorial team recommends:

The used car from import. The most popular models

Exceeding the speed limit. This recipe is a myth

Driving licenses 2018. Delayed changes?

With the mandatory fitting of the vehicle, it is worth mentioning the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic. Depending on it, the car should meet the mandatory equipment requirements in the country in which it is registered. Thus, a driver from Poland entering a country where it is obligatory to have a reflective clothing and a first aid kit cannot be fined for not having it, because having a first aid kit is not mandatory in Poland. Practice shows that attempts to award a ticket for lack of equipment required by local law still take place. If you do here not accept a ticket, you may need legal assistance in your country. It is worth already during the inspection to notify the Polish consulate about the fact.

The hunter deceased by a shot is a neighbor of Vandal

The author of the shot that has ended the life of the hunter would be from the parish.

It seems that the person killed by the accidental firing of a companion while hunting was Angel. A neighbor of Vandal who at the time of the events, was wearing the reflective safety vest. On the other hand, the author of the shot would be neighbor of the parish.

Because of this fact, and as a sign of mourning, the presentation of the living crib of Maia Castellan, which was to take place this Tuesday, December 26, has been suspended.

Upon receipt of the notice, the Generalist Fire Brigade has mobilized a terrestrial supply of Hospitalet Park and the GRAE helicopter (Group of Special Actions). The latter has been activated because it is an area of difficult access, which could have been difficult to help police in safety clothing to rescue the lifeless body of the victim.

About the driving and use of electric bikes in Spain

You also see them in Spain more and more. Then we are not talking about the Dutch and Belgians who came to Spain with their electric bicycle to cycle during their holidays but also Spaniards who go for the electric bicycle without wear reflective safety vest. Of course, that is not yet in such large quantities as in the Netherlands, but you can see them more and more, also because there is more and more supply and the bikes become cheaper. However, what are the rules, laws and regulations for the use of electric bicycles in Spain?

An electric bicycle is a means of transport that is powered by an electric motor, whether or not in combination with muscle strength. In the Netherlands, the electric bicycle is officially called “bicycle with pedal assistance” which is a bicycle that works in combination with muscle strength and therefore only provides support. This type of bicycle is sometimes called “pedicel,” a contraction of English words pedal and electric). This name is also sometimes heard in Spain.

In Spain, the following general rules apply:

For riding an electric bicycle with pedal assistance that cannot be faster than 25 km / h and has a capacity of up to 500 watts (formerly 250 watts just like in the Netherlands / Belgium) engine power, the same rules apply as for a normal bicycle. For bicycles with an electric motor that can be faster than 25 km / h and have more engine power or can be driven without kicking, the rules for mopeds apply. This means that with the bikes one should not in principle, be allowed to ride on the bike path, one should wear a helmet and needs a special driving license. You also need to be insured, just like with mopeds and scooters. The maximum speed for all cyclists including electric bikes is 45 km / h.

General rules cycling in Spain

Adults are required to wear a bicycle helmet when driving on the road outside the built-up area, while minors under the age of 16 always have to wear a bicycle helmet (inside and outside the built-up area).

It is recommended to wear reflective clothing during the hours when it is dark. Oddly enough, the rules do not state that it is mandatory to use light, in fact, many cyclists do not even have light on the bike. As everywhere, cyclists must also respect the general traffic rules and stop at the STOP signs, zebra crossings and traffic lights. If one does not do that then one can get fines just like the driver.

Take care of the bike, that is, make sure the chain is good, the brakes work and the tires have the right tension so that cycling is safer. Every time you sit on the bike and want to turn to the right or left, you have to indicate that well and well in advance. If one drives with a group of cyclists on the main road, this should be done in parallel with a maximum of two people next to each other unless there is a lot of traffic and visibility is obstructed, then one has to cycle behind each other.

It is forbidden to ride on the bicycle with the headphones to listen to music, with the mobile phone in hand or after using drugs and alcohol. Cycling on motorways is prohibited for minors under 14 years of age. The other cyclists may provide they wear a helmet and reflective vest, ride on the emergency lane of motorways, something that has undoubtedly been seen in Spain. This is only allowed on those motorways where there are no prohibition signs. Have we forgotten something? Have we misinterpreted something? Then let us know with a link to a source where more information can be obtained. This way we get a good and correct overview of driving electric bikes in Spain.
